Over the past few months, we’ve embarked on a transformative journey at our Limuru farm—tripling our acreage and opening the door to exciting possibilities. This move isn’t just about increasing our land; it’s about deepening our commitment to farming in with natural systems and regenerating the landscapes under our production. To understand why the new Upanuzi fields matter so much, let’s explore how our farming model works and why this expansion is a true milestone for regenerative agriculture in Kenya.

A Quick Look at Our Farming Method
In nature, forests teem with diverse plants, trees, fungi, and countless other organisms—all intricately linked in a thriving web of life. Over time, forests progress from simpler to more complex, layered plant communities, creating a balanced system where every living thing helps the others flourish.
Our approach, syntropic agroforestry, mirrors this natural evolution. We plant multiple species together—crops, trees, and shrubs—allowing them to support and protect one another. As each field matures, it moves through distinct phases: starting with the horticultural phase (with an option of poultry too as we did), then transitioning into fruit trees, and eventually culminating in timber species. After about a decade, we repeat the cycle.

How It’s Working in our Limuru Farm
The First Field - 3 years old

Our oldest field has gracefully moved past its early vegetable years and is now a vibrant perennial haven. We’re currently harvesting avocados, lemons, and tree tomatoes. And there’s more to look forward to—by June, we anticipate a first taste of our stone fruits, including plums and peaches.
The Second Field - 2 years old

Just wrapping up its initial vegetable cycle, this field is on the brink of transformation. Soon, it will host raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, pears, and plums—forming a blossoming orchard that carries on our commitment to long-term, sustainable bounty.
The New Upanuzi Fields

This expansive new area is still in its vegetable phase, but it’s already showing immense promise. From broccoli and cauliflower to sweet potatoes (purple and orange varieties!), French beans, carrots, pak choi, and courgettes, the Upanuzi fields are gearing up to deliver a generous harvest.
In just four short months, we’ve watched these once-bare fields evolve into a flourishing green tapestry. To see this transformation for yourself, be sure to check out our timelapse video. You’ll notice darker, richer soils filled with life—proof that regenerative methods truly nurture the land.
A Celebration of Regenerative Agriculture
By expanding the Limuru farm and adopting syntropic agroforestry, we’re not only harvesting nutrient-dense produce; we’re also building up the soil, nurturing thriving ecosystems, and tackling climate challenges head-on. This is farming as nature intended—productive, diverse, and always evolving.
